The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that his support in the 2027 presidential election will go only to a candidate who is truly committed to Nigeria’s development.
Wike made this known while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, August 19. He explained that his political choices would not be influenced by emotions or party sentiment but by the genuine interest of the country.
“I will support somebody who I know will make Nigeria grow, somebody who has the interest of Nigeria at heart. I don’t believe in sentiments, I don’t believe in mere emotion,” Wike said.
The former Rivers State governor also stressed that power should remain in the South after President Bola Tinubu’s tenure. According to him, maintaining the rotation of power is important for fairness and balance in the country.
Wike’s position is not new. In the build-up to the 2023 presidential election, he broke ranks with his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and supported Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC). His support was seen as crucial, as Tinubu went on to win Rivers State with over 231,000 votes while Atiku Abubakar, the PDP candidate, got only about 88,000.
