Nigerian gospel singer, Akinade Ibuoye, popularly known as Gaise Baba, has shared a personal story about his struggle with pornography addiction.
He opened up during an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo.
A Journey in Music & Ministry
Gaise Baba is an award‑winning Afro‑fusion gospel artist who blends Yoruba, English, and Nigerian Pidgin in his music. He began his career with the debut album Gaise Baba in 2011 and rose to fame with the single “Follow Follow,” which earned award nominations . Since then, he’s released songs, EPs, and albums—such as Logo (2020) and A Decade After (2022)—that combine gospel messages with contemporary African beats . He also founded initiatives like LightOut, a high‑school outreach program, the Aramanda festival for urban Christian music, and Lounge464, a live music residency. Gaise Baba is celebrated as a “culture architect” and cultural ambassador, using music and arts to impact youth across Nigeria and beyond .
Gaise Baba said he first came across adult content when he was just 13 years old. By the age of 15, he had become addicted, even though he had already made a personal decision to remain pure until marriage. He told Chude that he once wrote and signed a purity covenant and took it to his pastor to show his commitment.
“Yes, I married as a virgin. Me and my wife. But it was not easy. I fell many times,” he said, adding that under the right pressure, anyone can fall.
The singer also shared that his breakthrough in music came just two weeks after his mother died. According to him, he wasn’t even chasing fame anymore when it came. His hit song “No Turning Back,” which features worship singer Lawrence Oyor, became a big success in gospel music circles.
Many people online have praised Gaise Baba for being honest about his past struggles. Some fans said his story shows real strength, while others called his testimony a form of ministry that goes beyond singing.
Gaise Baba recently celebrated one month since the release of his song “No Turning Back.” He thanked God and his supporters for the love, saying the song is part of a “God’s wave” moving across the world.
