Port Harcourt, Nigeria – Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has extended a heartfelt congratulatory message to the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief (Barr.) Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, on the conferment of a Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) Honoris Causa by the University of Port Harcourt.
In an official statement released on behalf of his family and the people of Rivers State, Governor Fubara described the award as a “well-deserved honour,” commending Wike’s transformational leadership and longstanding contributions to education, governance, and national development.
“This distinguished recognition is not only a celebration of your illustrious accomplishments but a testament to your enduring impact—as a transformational leader, visionary statesman, and proud alumnus whose contributions have significantly advanced the cause of education and national development,” the statement read.
Governor Fubara highlighted Wike’s unwavering commitment to infrastructural development, first as Governor of Rivers State and now in his role as Minister of the FCT. According to him, these efforts have not only inspired hope in governance but have also positively impacted lives across the country.
“It is only fitting that your alma mater honours you for your outstanding dedication and the strategic role you continue to play in shaping Nigeria’s future,” Fubara noted.
The governor further emphasized the pride the state takes in Wike’s achievement, describing the honour as another feather to his cap and a reflection of the legacy he continues to build in public service.
“We take immense pride in this remarkable milestone and join you in celebrating yet another feather to your cap. May this recognition fuel even greater accomplishments in your continued service to our nation,” he added.
Chief Nyesom Wike, who previously served two terms as Governor of Rivers State, currently oversees Nigeria’s capital city as FCT Minister and remains a prominent figure in national politics.
The honorary degree was conferred by the University of Port Harcourt, where Wike is an alumnus, in recognition of his contributions to governance and education.
The congratulatory message was signed by Governor Fubara and comes at a politically significant time, given the tensions between the two leaders. Nevertheless, the gesture signals respect for Wike’s accomplishments beyond politics.
