The Akwa Ibom State Government has officially initiated the Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, which will distribute a total of N2,162,550,000 to 28,834 recipients across all 31 local government areas in the state.
During the launch held in Uyo, the state capital, Princess Emem Ibanga, Commissioner for the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, emphasized that this initiative serves as a crucial step towards alleviating poverty, especially in rural communities.
Princess Ibanga highlighted the program’s role in empowering women and families, providing essential financial support in underserved areas. She remarked, “This program greatly benefits not only the rural settings of our five states but all of Nigeria, marking a significant step in poverty eradication.”
The Commissioner expressed her appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for their commitment to launching this impactful program. She noted that empowering women financially leads to the empowerment of their families, stating, “When women receive this cash, they also uplift their families.”
Mrs. Helen Obareke, the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady in Akwa Ibom State, also praised the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs for the successful implementation of the Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer Scheme. Representing Governor Umo Eno, she described the initiative as a testament to President Tinubu’s dedication to supporting vulnerable Nigerians.
Mrs. Obareke highlighted the state government’s ongoing efforts in social welfare and poverty alleviation through various programs, including the Arise Compassionate Homes and monthly assistance for elderly citizens. She urged beneficiaries to maximize the opportunities provided by these initiatives and to continue supporting the President’s objectives.
Dr. Godwin Akpan, the State Focal Person for the National Social Investment Programme in Akwa Ibom, remarked that the program marks a significant achievement in efforts to support the state’s most vulnerable populations. He described the initiative as a key element of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at providing vital financial assistance.
Dr. Akpan encouraged recipients to use the funds judiciously, stating, “Let these funds serve as a foundation for economic stability and self-sufficiency. We urge all beneficiaries to work towards a brighter and more secure future.”
The launch concluded with the presentation of debit cards to the program’s beneficiaries by a representative of Governor Umo Eno.
