Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, announced the development in Abuja on Tuesday, explaining that the change is part of ongoing reforms to boost professionalism and transparency within the Force.

According to Adejobi, the new Directorate will serve as the apex legal organ of the Police, coordinating all legal services, including legal training for officers, comprehensive policy reviews, and collaboration with prosecutorial bodies, the judiciary, and other key stakeholders in the justice sector.

To lead the Directorate, the IGP appointed Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Ohiozoba O. Ehiede, a seasoned legal expert with many years of distinguished service and leadership experience in the Nigeria Police Force.

Egbetokun noted that consolidating all legal functions under one directorate will enhance transparency, improve prosecution success rates, and align the Police Force’s legal operations with international standards.

He called on all police lawyers and officers to support the Directorate’s mission to advance justice delivery, strengthen prosecution capabilities, and restore public confidence in police operations.
