Recruitment: Akwa Ibom Govt Says No Monthly Stipend for Unsuccessful Applicants

The Akwa Ibom State Government has issued a clarification regarding recent false claims circulating on social media about a promised stipend for unsuccessful candidates in the ongoing Civil Service recruitment exercise.

The reports suggested that Governor Umo Eno, during the Grand Finale of the TownSquare Meeting/Empowerment for Etinan Federal Constituency, announced a monthly stipend of ₦50,000 for applicants who did not succeed in the recruitment process.

In a statement, the government categorically denied these claims, emphasizing that they are misleading and inaccurate. Here are the key points highlighted by the government:

  1. Civil Service Recruitment Process:
The government confirmed that all individuals who applied for the advertised Civil Service vacancies through the official Employment Portal will be shortlisted to take a Computer-Based Test (CBT). Only those who pass this test will proceed to the next phase, which includes an oral interview. At no point did the Governor or the State Government promise stipends to unsuccessful applicants.
  2. Youth Support via the Arise Employment Portal:
As part of its youth empowerment initiatives, the Akwa Ibom State Government has introduced the Arise Employment Portal. Every youth registered on the portal is eligible for a one-time grant of ₦50,000, irrespective of whether they applied for Civil Service positions or other job opportunities. However, the government clarified that this grant is separate from the Civil Service recruitment process and should not be confused with compensation for unsuccessful candidates.
  3. Commitment to Transparency and Merit:
The Governor reassured all applicants and the public that the Civil Service recruitment process will adhere to principles of fairness, transparency, and merit. The recruitment will not include any preferential treatment or allocations, aligning with the Governor’s commitment to accountable leadership.

In light of this clarification, the government urges the public to disregard the misleading reports and to rely solely on official government communication channels for accurate information regarding the recruitment process.
