In a significant move to promote sustainable transportation and empower its youth, the Youth in Parliament Forum (YIPF) has partnered with CAWIN Mobility Limited to launch a groundbreaking training program aimed at equipping 2,000 Nigerian youths with essential skills in electric vehicle (EV) maintenance and manufacturing.
This program, set to commence on September 20, 2025, is free of charge and open to young individuals nationwide.
A Historic Milestone for Nigeria’s Youth
Tony Nwulu, the Director General of YIPF, heralded this initiative as a “historic milestone” that addresses the urgent need for technical expertise in the rapidly expanding electric vehicle sector. The training will serve as a vital resource for the future of transportation in Nigeria, ensuring that the country is not left behind in the global shift towards clean energy.
Program Structure
The initiative will benefit 2,000 participants, comprising 1,000 engineering students and 1,000 mechanics from various states across Nigeria. Nwulu emphasized that this program is not only about skill development but also about preparing Nigeria for the global transition to green transportation. “Electric vehicles will require repairs and servicing, and our youths will be ready to provide that expertise,” he stated.
Supporting Infrastructure and Job Creation
In addition to the training program, the partnership has introduced the Lawmakers Car Acquisition Scheme (LCAS), which aims to provide federal lawmakers with access to both electric and conventional vehicles at affordable prices, complemented by after-sales support. Wayne Ji, Managing Director of CAWIN Mobility, highlighted that this initiative will foster job creation, enhance local capacity, and position Nigeria as a leader in the West African electric vehicle revolution. The company also plans to invest in charging stations, local assembly plants, and supply chains to bolster this initiative.
Preparing for the Future of Transportation
Hon. Olamijuwonlo Alao Akala, Chairman of the House Committee on Youth in Parliament, noted that this project is a timely response to the evolving landscape of transportation. “The world is moving electric, and Nigeria cannot afford to be left behind. This program ensures our youths are ready to lead the change,” he affirmed.
