In a media chat this morning, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, publicly expressed his admiration for Pastor Umo Eno, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, as well as the Governor of Delta State.
Wike’s praise for Governor Eno centers around his boldness in openly declaring support for President Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
Wike noted that many governors tend to engage in behind-the-scenes politics, preferring to support the president discreetly rather than making their positions known. He highlighted Eno’s willingness to stand by his convictions, stating, “That is why I love Governor Eno of Akwa Ibom and that of Delta State, because they declare open support for the President. That is boldness and acting on your conviction, you don’t need to be APC member before you support the President, I was not in APC when I supported the President for election.”
Wike further recounted his experience during the Supreme Court judgment that would determine President Tinubu’s fate, revealing that many governors from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) were already gathered at the Aso Villa before he arrived. He questioned the sincerity of their political engagements, saying, “What kind of politics are we playing if you support the President behind closed doors but can’t say it out loud?”
Wike’s comments reflect a growing trend among some leaders in Nigeria who advocate for transparent political support, emphasizing the importance of public endorsement in the current political landscape.
