The perpetrators, dressed in police and AVG uniforms, were armed with rifles and pump-action guns, and were driving private cars, a bus, and a shuttle.

According to eyewitnesses, the kidnappers set up a fake checkpoint, controlling traffic and flagging down unsuspecting motorists, particularly those driving SUVs, Lexus, Highlanders, and Prados. The victims, believing they were being stopped by genuine police officers, were asked to come down from their vehicles and were subsequently cuffed and taken away.

The kidnappers demanded a ransom of 10 million Naira from each victim, but thankfully, no violence was reported during the incident. The victims were eventually taken to a secluded location in Delta State, where they realized they had been deceived by impostors.

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the incident and is working to apprehend the perpetrators. The police have also reassured the public that they are committed to fighting crime and protecting lives.

To avoid falling victim to such scams, motorists are advised to be cautious when stopped by individuals claiming to be police officers. They should verify the identity of the officers and ensure they are at a legitimate checkpoint.
