El-Rufai Mocks Quality of Tinubu’s Cabinet

Posted on June 23, 2025

Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed disappointment and frustration with President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, describing it as the largest in Nigeria’s history and questioning its competence. Speaking in a recent interview, El-Rufai lamented that the cabinet lacks individuals of the caliber of notable past ministers, such as Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Oby Ezekwesili.

“Who is the Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of this government?” El-Rufai asked, highlighting his concerns about the team’s ability to effectively govern. He further stated that only a handful of ministers in the current cabinet could be considered truly capable.

El-Rufai attributed his gratitude for not being part of the cabinet to divine intervention, stating that he feels fortunate to have been spared the potential embarrassment of being associated with what he perceives as a dysfunctional team. He expressed dismay at the cabinet’s performance, noting that they seem to struggle with even the simplest aspects of governance.

In his words “If there is one thing I was sure President Tinubu will get right is to have a competent team. His cabinet is a joke, the largest in Nigeria’s history. Maybe there are only 5 Ministers that can be called Ministers in my time, 20 years prior. Who is the Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in this cabinet. Who is the Oby Ezekwesili?”

Asked if his anger was his been dropped as a Monster

El-Rufai said “Anytime I wake up and see President Tinubu and his team inflicting pains on Nigerians and bungle the simplest things in Governance, things I knew even as DG of BPE,, these guys can’t just get it right, I thank God, I am a lucky person. I thank God for saving me from the embarrassment of explaining to be part of this disaster”.

Recall that Elrufai is currently at the centre of a team of stakeholders across the Northern Nigeria working day and nigh to fight President Tinubu’s second term bid.
