El-Rufai: ‘Peter Obi Can’t Win an Election, he is a Nollywood Actor’ (Throw Back)

Posted on July 4, 2025

Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has dismissed Peter Obi’s chances in the presidential election, calling him a “Nollywood actor” who lacks the capacity to win. El-Rufai made this comment during an interview with TVC in February 2023, stating that Obi doesn’t have the number of states or 25% of the votes in more than 16 states, and therefore can’t win the election.

In his words

“Peter Obi can’t win the election, he doesn’t have the number of states, he doesn’t have 25 per cent in more than — the last time we checked — 16 states. He can’t go anywhere. Peter Obi is a Nollywood actor and that’s all he will be”.

Peter Obi’s Response:

In response, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, said he would work hard to improve the Nollywood industry if elected president. He called on Nigerian actors to support him, adding that the entertainment industry is one of the engines that will develop Nigeria as a nation.

It’s worth noting that these comments were made during the 2023 presidential election campaign season, and the election has since taken place.
