Acting Alone Can’t Pay the Bills – Actress Mo Bewa Advises Colleagues

Posted on June 16, 2025

Nollywood actress, Omobewaji Oyediji, famously known as Mo Bewa, has opened up about the harsh realities of life in the Nigerian film industry. Speaking in a recent interview on Sunday, June 15, 2025, the curvy screen star addressed the challenges many actors face in sustaining themselves financially, stressing that depending solely on acting is no longer enough to survive in the industry.

Mo Bewa is a fast-rising actress known not just for her acting prowess but also for embracing her natural curves, which have made her stand out in Nollywood. Over the years, she has built a strong fan base through her social media presence and bold takes on controversial topics surrounding the industry, especially regarding beauty standards and visibility.

In her recent comments, Mo Bewa responded to growing conversations about how curvy women are perceived in Nollywood. Contrary to claims of objectification, she stated that actresses with fuller figures are actually being celebrated, not demeaned. “I just think they are being appreciated for their features. I don’t think they are being objectified. That word is not what I will call it,” she said, pushing back against the narrative that curvy actresses are being sexualized without merit.

Beyond body image discussions, Mo Bewa was quick to point out the financial instability in the entertainment industry. She advised her colleagues not to rely solely on acting for income. “I don’t think acting can sustain one without doing other businesses. Everyone should have multiple streams of income,” she emphasized. According to her, even the busiest actors face dry spells, and it’s crucial to have something else to fall back on when the roles stop coming.

She also urged upcoming actors not to depend only on talent. In her words, “At this point, you need talent, content, and clout to survive. Some people are super talented and haven’t been given the platform to showcase it to the world. Right now, just get on with the trend. Don’t be static and depend on your talent alone.” Her message reflects the current state of Nollywood, where visibility, consistency, and personal branding often determine success more than skills alone.
