Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced that the ongoing recruitment of 3,000 workers into the State Civil Service will be strictly on merit. In his words “Let’s give the right people the opportunity to go and do this job”.
This announcement was made while he was speaking during the Monthly Prayer Service at the Latter House Chapel, Government House, Uyo. Governor UmonEno said his administration is determined to ensure fairness and transparency in the exercise and that the screening will be computer-based, guaranteeing that every applicant gets a level playing ground.
“I am told that about 15,000 Akwa Ibom youths applied for the civil service job, but only 3,000 will be engaged. It will be a computer-based test, and as you finish, the result will come out immediately. So, don’t bother sending me texts for slots. It is not possible. For once, we will do this one strictly on merit. If you don’t understand computers, don’t bother,” the Governor declared.
According to him, the process is designed to shortlist only 5000 people and remove 12,000 will be weeded out.
He urged applicants to trust the process and avoid seeking backdoor influence.
The Governor, further encouraged other Akwa Ibomites interested in opportunities to explore the State’s job portal, noting that several people have secured employment through it without knowing anyone in government. He also expressed satisfaction with the level of youth engagement in the State’s ongoing projects, saying that during his two-day project inspection, he was delighted to see young people, including female engineers, working actively at different sites.
He also said that the third phase of the food distribution programme for vulnerable citizens will commence on August 20, 2025. He charged stakeholders to coordinate effectively in their local government areas and warned youths not to disrupt the exercise, stressing that only those with food vouchers are eligible beneficiaries.
Governor Eno concluded by explaining that his administration is committed to integrity and accountability, adding, “There are things we must do right. We cannot afford to disappoint those expecting so much from us, and by God’s grace, we must win this race.”
