The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is not worried about the recent political coalition formed by top opposition leaders.
He made this statement during an interview on Arise TV on Thursday, July 10.
Onanuga was reacting to the news of a possible alliance between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Senate President David Mark. The group is said to be working together ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He made it clear that the APC does not see this coalition as a serious challenge. According to him, President Bola Tinubu’s achievements will speak for him in the next election. He also said that the APC believes Tinubu and his Vice President, Kashim Shettima, will be re-elected easily.
“They are free to form alliances,” Onanuga said, “but as far as the APC is concerned, we are not seeing them as any threat. Even if you merge Peter Obi and Atiku together, they still can’t beat Tinubu and Shettima.”
He added that it is still too early to start planning for 2027 and described the coalition as “jumping the gun.” According to him, now is the time for governance, not politicking.
