The Bishop of Anglican Church Abuja has come under fire of strong criticisms for offering his alter to controversial Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike to in their words, ‘desecrate with political rascality’ by campaigning, abusing political foes and throwing tantrums at dissenting voices.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, had said at Anglican that the church almost made a costly mistake in 2023 that would have cost Nigeria its future.
He spoke during the official thanksgiving service for the successful completion of projects commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at St. James’ Anglican Church, Asokoro in Abuja
He cautioned the church to be careful against making such a similar mistake in 2027.
The Minister urged church leaders to ask politicians in their denominations for advice on what is happening within the political space.
According to Wike: “Let me use this opportunity to tell us, particularly the church you nearly made the worst mistake in 2023, we have to be very careful this time around. 
“You took a decision that would have cost some of us our future, ask us questions, we are the politicians.
“You have to be careful of what they tell you, if that thing had happened some of us wouldn’t have been here today.
“If you want us to educate you, call us – you have senators in this church, call on them, ask what is going on and they would be able to educate you. Blackmail, they are at it again.”
During the Arise TV show, Abati said ‘it is shameful that Wike went to church to play politics desecrating the alter of God in the most ungodly manner. It is against the law for Wike to hold a thanksgiving service in Anglican church to celebrate the commissioning f projects. according to law, government is not to adapt any religion, so why did he go to the church, that is against the law”. Rufai Added.
Rufai blamed the Anglican Bishop of Abuja for allowing Wike use the church to play politics, he said “no matter the amount of politics money that a politician would give the church, the Bishop shouldn’t have allowed Wike to use the alter of God to play politics. i am a man of faith and it is bad that we allow such things to happen. Wike was asked on TV to say how he got money to buy a Roll Royce but he fumbled, he saying his father was a Managing Director, abusing Amaechi’s wife and so on, i recommend mental evaluation for him”.
