Beyond Infrastructure, We Are Building Public Trust – President Tinubu

Posted on July 6, 2025

On Friday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu emphasized that his government’s efforts extend beyond mere road construction to rebuilding public trust in inclusive governance.

This statement came during the commissioning of the newly rehabilitated Aguma Palace–Radio Nigeria–New Market Road in Gwagwalada, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where he was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Tinubu described the ongoing projects as part of a “quiet revolution” aimed at transforming the FCT under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He stated, “We are not just rehabilitating roads; we are rehabilitating trust.” The president highlighted that the changes taking place are a result of strategic reforms and policies aimed at expanding the revenue base of the FCT, which in turn supports investments in critical areas such as roads, schools, and healthcare.

The president noted that the FCT, often viewed merely as the center of Abuja, is experiencing significant transformation driven by inclusive investments. He acknowledged the frustrations of those living outside the city center, who have long awaited development and inclusion. “We are here today to rewrite that story,” he asserted.

Tinubu expressed that the newly inaugurated road was not selected at random but was nominated by the local residents, showcasing his administration’s commitment to participatory governance. He emphasized, “This is the kind of democracy we believe in – one that listens, responds, and delivers.”

He described the road as essential, stating it represents dignity for market women, safety for schoolchildren, and prosperity for traders. The president affirmed that the project would enhance the movement of goods and people, improve access to education and healthcare, and unlock the economic potential of rural communities.

He also acknowledged the contributions of FCT Minister Barrister Nyesom Wike, recognizing his effective leadership and commitment to progress. “This project is not just a symbol of government presence. It is your project. It belongs to the people of Gwagwalada,” Tinubu said, reiterating the administration’s goal of ensuring that development benefits all citizens.

Wike, in his remarks, criticized opposition politicians for forming coalitions just 18 months into President Tinubu’s term, questioning their motives. He challenged these politicians to present their achievements instead of claiming that Nigerians were dissatisfied. “You started a coalition when he was barely six months in office? When will you stop deceiving Nigerians?” he asked.

He further expressed that the coalition’s members, including former Governor Rotimi Amaechi and former Senate President David Mark, were frustrated by their loss of power. Wike demanded transparency from them regarding their past performance, urging them to “show your scorecard.”

Additionally, Wike criticized the coalition’s support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, pointing out his frequent party switches since 1999. “Were you born into a coalition?” he questioned, highlighting the instability in political allegiance.

Mariya Mahmoud, Minister of State for FCT, reiterated that the road commissioning symbolizes a commitment to inclusive governance and infrastructure renewal in rural communities. She thanked President Tinubu for his leadership, which has inspired development across the FCT.

Hon. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, Coordinator of the Satellite Town Development in the FCT, concluded by stating that the commissioning marks a significant step forward in the infrastructural development of satellite towns within the FCT.
