Divorce: ‘Blame Yul, Not May’, Lawyer Breaks Silence on Edochie’s Marriage Crisis

Posted on June 25, 2025

On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, May Edochie’s lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, spoke out for the first time about the ongoing issues in the Edochie family.

He explained that the blame lies with Yul Edochie and not with May, as many people believe.

The Edochie family has been in the spotlight for months due to personal issues made public. It started with Yul Edochie revealing he had taken a second wife, actress Judy Austin, despite being legally married to May. Things got worse when Yul started making strange statements online, including asking for May to return his bride price and accusing her of doing surgery instead of mourning their late son. Meanwhile, his brother Linc’s ex-partner, Yinka, got into fights online with May’s fans. All these actions have led to serious backlash and divided opinions across social media.

May’s lawyer said the Edochie family reached out to his office, asking May to speak to her fans, known as “May Nation,” to calm down the online trolling. He said this request is unfair and wrong. According to him, May is not the one causing the problem, Yul is. He added that her fans are only reacting to how badly she has been treated.

Ugwuonye stressed that if the Edochie family wants peace, they need to start by holding Yul accountable for his actions. He mentioned how Yul’s behavior, from proudly calling himself a polygamist to making hurtful public statements, is the real reason people are angry. The lawyer also pointed out that Pete Edochie, the head of the family, has stayed silent even though he is known for speaking out on other matters, and this silence is upsetting the public even more.

The lawyer also addressed the idea that May created or controls the “May Nation” fan group. He explained that these are ordinary people who support May because they see her as someone who has been wronged. Telling May to silence them, he said, could make things worse. He called on the family, especially Leo Edochie, to stop blaming May and instead focus on fixing what Yul started.
