Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has expressed interest in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket for the 2027 general elections. In an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Amaechi stated that he would serve for only one term if elected.
Amaechi emphasized the importance of maintaining the balance of power in Nigerian politics, citing the unwritten rule of alternating between the North and South. “You must keep to that unwritten agreement that says North eight years and South eight years,” he said.
The former Rivers State Governor highlighted his experience in fighting against the PDP government’s attempt to renege on their agreement to serve only four years. “I led the fight against the PDP government… because there was an agreement that the government at the time would serve four years,” he explained.
Amaechi’s comments suggest that he is positioning himself for a potential presidential bid in 2027, while also acknowledging the need for power rotation between the North and South. “This time around, the South must be allowed to complete their tenure,” he stressed.
As the 2027 general elections approach, Amaechi’s interest in the ADC presidential ticket may spark intense competition within the party. His stance on power rotation and his experience in Nigerian politics make him a potential contender for the ticket.
