In a significant political maneuver, Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has officially transitioned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This unexpected defection, confirmed on Wednesday, April 23, came after a crucial closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba. It is also said that his predecessor Dr. Okowa also briefed his constituents of his next political decision calling it “a new political direction”.

The announcement was made by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, who shared details of the decision during a conversation with Vanguard. He emphasized that the Governor’s choice was made after thorough discussions with influential political figures, reflecting a strategic approach to governance in Delta State.
Having secured victory in the 2023 gubernatorial elections under the PDP banner, Oborevwori expressed that this shift is aimed at fostering long-term development and ensuring political stability for the state.

His reception by APC leaders was notably warm, marking what many analysts are labeling a “strategic realignment” that could significantly alter the political landscape of the South-South region as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections. This development not only signals a new chapter for Governor Oborevwori but also suggests potential shifts in alliances and power dynamics within Nigerian politics.
