DSTV, GOTV Begins Weekly Subscription

As over 243,000 Nigerian subscribers dump the Multichoice cable TV, the company has made a bold move aimed at boosting flexibility and affordability, MultiChoice has launched weekly subscription plans for its DStv and GOtv platforms under a new initiative dubbed the Ka Weekie campaign.

The pay-TV giant says the new plans are designed to cater to viewers who prefer short-term payment options that align better with their financial routines and lifestyle needs. By offering seven-day subscriptions, the company is targeting users such as weekly earners, travellers, and those who want more control over their viewing budgets.

According to MultiChoice Uganda’s PR and Communications Manager, Rinaldi Jamugisa, the rollout is part of a broader strategy to make digital entertainment more accessible. He emphasized that the company is listening closely to customer feedback and is committed to meeting the evolving needs of its subscribers.

“We understand the importance of affordability and convenience in today’s economic climate. These new packages are designed to offer value without compromising access to quality entertainment,” Jamugisa said.

The weekly offerings include a variety of packages across different price ranges. For DStv users, available plans include Lumba, Access, Family, and Compact. On the GOtv side, viewers can choose from GOtv Lite, Value, Max, Supa, and Supa Plus. Among these, DStv Lumba and GOtv Lite represent the most affordable entry points.

MultiChoice also revealed that subscriptions can be activated via the MyDStv and MyGOtv mobile apps, or by using USSD codes and payment platforms like MTN MoMo, Airtel Money, and partner banks.

Colin Asiimwe, Head of Marketing at MultiChoice, added that the campaign is tailored to meet the realities of the current consumer landscape. “This is about giving our customers options that fit their daily and weekly lives. Whether you’re travelling, budgeting weekly, or prefer more control over your entertainment spend, there’s now a plan for you,” he said.

The new offering comes at a time when the company is navigating economic headwinds across the continent. In Nigeria alone, over 243,000 subscribers discontinued their service between April and September 2024 due to high inflation and tightening consumer spending.

Despite these challenges, MultiChoice remains focused on adapting its services to meet market demands, ensuring that access to entertainment remains within reach for more households across Africa.
