The Federal Government has declared Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
The announcement aims to enable Muslim faithful across the country to observe and celebrate this important Islamic festival.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the two major Islamic festivals celebrated annually by Muslims worldwide. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon Him) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command.
The festival is marked by special prayers, feasts, and the symbolic act of animal sacrifice, with portions shared among family, friends, and the less privileged.
The announcement was made on Monday, June 2, by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government. The declaration was contained in a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani. Eid-ul-Adha is predominantly observed by Muslims and is one of the most significant events on the Islamic calendar.
In the statement, Minister Tunji-Ojo congratulated all Muslim faithful in Nigeria and the diaspora on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha. He urged the Muslim Ummah to emulate the virtues of sacrifice and faith as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon Him).
He also encouraged Nigerians of all faiths to support the current administration’s efforts in restoring the nation’s glory, calling for unity, peace, and prayers for a prosperous Nigeria.
