FIFA has officially revoked the Club World Cup titles from Manchester United, Liverpool, and Manchester City, reclassifying them and other former champions such as Real Madrid and Barcelona as ‘FIFA Intercontinental Champions.’
According to a report by The Daily Mail, this decision means that Chelsea is now recognized as the inaugural winners of the tournament, having secured the title in the 2025 edition by defeating Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final.
This year’s competition featured an expanded format, with 32 teams from six different confederations participating. The Club World Cup is set to return in 2029, with PSG, Pyramids, Al Hilal, and Cruz Azul already qualified after their victories in their respective continental championships last season. As a result of these changes, Chelsea stands alone as the only club entitled to the title of ‘world champions.’
