Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), receiving membership card number 001 from party chairman Tony Okocha.
Fubara’s defection marks a significant shift in Rivers State politics, with the governor pledging to strengthen the APC and support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Fubara’s move follows his recent resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the need for stability and development in Rivers State. He emphasized his commitment to working with the APC to deliver dividends of democracy to the people.
The governor’s registration has sparked widespread reactions, with some viewing it as a strategic move to align with the ruling party and secure development projects for Rivers State.
The governor had expressed backing for President Tinubu’s re-election bid, urging Rivers people to rally behind the president.
Fubara’s defection is seen as a boost to the APC’s presence in Rivers State, a traditionally PDP stronghold.
The move has also intensified speculation about potential realignments in the state’s political landscape.
