In a dramatic escalation of political tensions, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, wife of Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has publicly challenged Senator Uche Ekwunife to take an oath of fidelity and submit their children to DNA testing.
This challenge follows accusations from Ekwunife that Mrs. Soludo claims are unfounded and politically motivated.
In a statement released on Friday, Mrs. Soludo condemned Ekwunife’s actions as malicious, asserting that they involve dragging her children into their political feud. She set a 72-hour deadline for the senator to retract her allegations and issue an apology, threatening legal action if this demand is not met.
Mrs. Soludo proposed that both women swear an oath of fidelity and chastity before the Blessed Virgin Mary at any cathedral, stating, “I will swear (with my children) that in my 55 years on earth, I have known only one man—Chukwuma Soludo. You should also swear (with your children or your political ambitions) that since you got married, you have never cheated on your husband.”
Additionally, she offered to cover the costs for both families to undergo paternity tests for their children at three reputable hospitals in London. “If the results confirm that your husband fathered all my children, I will not only congratulate you but also present a cash award,” she added.
Emphasizing her commitment to her marriage, Mrs. Soludo described herself as a family-oriented woman with strong Christian values. “I married him as a virgin, and my fidelity to him in 33 years of marriage is ironclad,” she stated.
She also highlighted her independence from government resources, claiming she has never relied on public funds during her tenure as First Lady of Anambra State.
Mrs. Soludo concluded her statement by drawing a parallel between her approach to this conflict and a long-distance race, asserting that her tools are “decency, character, and grace.” She invited Senator Ekwunife to join her in this marathon, suggesting her resolve to defend her integrity will not waver.
The tension between the two women reportedly stems from Governor Soludo’s inquiries into Senator Ekwunife’s academic credentials, which led to a series of sharp exchanges and accusations, prompting Mrs. Soludo to enter the fray.
