Unknown gunmen have allegedly kidnapped a senior government official in Nasarawa State. The victim, Barrister Yusuf Musa, is the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Tourism, and Culture.
He was taken from his home in the Shinge area of Lafia, the state capital.
The incident happened at night when Barrister Musa was returning home. According to a neighbor, he was about to open his gate when the attackers struck. Later, his car was seen parked outside and his gate was found open, but he was nowhere to be found.
The neighbor raised an alarm, and a search began immediately. Sadly, all efforts to reach him through his phone failed. People close to him also said they had no idea where he could be.
Police officers later found his Peugeot pick-up van with the doors wide open. They also noticed that the gate to his house was still ajar. This made them suspect that he had been kidnapped. It was also discovered that his other vehicle, a GMC with number plate KUJ 88 PA, was missing.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered a full investigation. He has also deployed officers across different areas of the state to search for the kidnappers. Police divisions in places like Akwanga, Andaha, Garaku, and Kadarko have all been put on alert.
