Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has made a bold statement , declaring that he has no plans to leave the Labour Party in the immediate future.
Otti made the remark in an interview with Rufai Oseni of Arise TV, he made the statement regarding the recent defections by politicians across the country including Governors, waving down any possibility of his defection from Labour Party (LP) before the 2027 elections.
Governor Otti’s Stance on Party Defection
Governor Otti drew parallels with the political journey of President Bola Tinubu, who held onto progressive politics across AD, AC and APC parties before becoming President of Nigeria. “If Tinubu was jumping parties, he wouldn’t be President today,” Otti said, highlighting the importance of loyalty and perseverance in politics. Otti emphasized the importance of standing by one’s principles and party, rather than jumping from one party to another.
Addressing the Labour Party Crisis
Regarding the recent crisis in the Labour Party, Governor Otti expressed confidence in the party’s leadership and structure. “We have fought and retrieved Labour,” he said, dismissing concerns about the party’s stability. He also criticized a prominent Labour Party chieftain, Abure, saying, “Abure is just masturbating; he is free to declare himself President of Nigeria. It doesn’t matter.”
Commitment to the Labour Party
Governor Otti reiterated his commitment to the Labour Party, stating, “The objective conditions today in Labour Party do not warrant me to leave the party.” He emphasized that everyone has the right to belong to any party of their choice, and not everyone needs to be in the All Progressives Congress (APC).
