According to Dada Olusegun, the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, the project will take about seven to nine months to complete. He made this known in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

The government explained that the aim of the project is to provide steady and reliable electricity in key academic and medical institutions. This, they said, will improve learning conditions, boost research, and make healthcare services better.

Some of the universities that will benefit from the solar projects include the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), University of Ibadan (UI) with the University College Hospital (UCH), and the University of Calabar (UNICAL).

Others are the Federal University Wukari and Agricultural and Rural Development Clusters. The government noted that these institutions were selected because of their importance in education, health, and national development.

With this project, the Tinubu administration hopes to reduce the problem of poor electricity supply in schools and hospitals, while also supporting Nigeria’s move towards clean and renewable energy.
