Meta Deletes 10 Million Accounts From Facebook, See Why

Posted on July 16, 2025

Meta, the company that owns Facebook, has removed over 10 million profiles in the first half of 2025.

This is part of a big move to make its platforms safer and more original for real users and content creators, as the deleted accounts are tagged as ‘fake’ accounts.

In a recent statement, Meta said it also took action against about 500,000 accounts that were posting spam or trying to fake likes and comments.

According to the company, many of these fake accounts were pretending to be popular content creators or reposting other people’s content without permission or proper editing. Meta warned that such behaviour can lead to serious penalties like lower reach or losing the chance to earn money through their tools.

To support real creators, Meta is introducing new tools that will trace back reused content to the original source. This will help give credit to the right people and allow their content to be seen more widely.

Meta also said that simply putting clips together or adding a watermark will no longer count as original content. They advised people to stop posting videos with watermarks from other apps, as such posts may be hidden or lose the chance to earn money.

The company has now added post-level insights on the Professional Dashboard. This allows creators to see how well each post is doing and know if their content is facing any restrictions.

In a related move, YouTube has also updated its rules. From now on, channels that post too many repeated or low-quality videos won’t earn ad revenue. Some creators thought this would affect AI-made content, but YouTube explained that using AI is still allowed if it helps tell a real story.

Both Meta and YouTube say they are working to raise content quality and protect real creators in a fast-growing online world.
