Says “I don’t do audio empowerment”
… as 105 students receive 100,000 naira alert each

The Member Representing Mkpat Enin State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uwem Imo-Ita, has disbursed 10.5 million naira in educational grants to 105 students from Mkpat Enin Local Government Area with the students receiving 100,000 naira each.
The lawmaker in his remark at the student empowerment programme held at the House of Assembly complex emphasized his commitment to promoting education in support of Pastor Umo Eno’s A.R.I.S.E agenda. In his words, “As a one-time undergraduate, who is still a student, I understand the challenges students face in the pursuit of education. That is the motivation I had to offer this helping hand.”
Hon. Imo-Ita assured the students that his promised educational grant was not an “audio empowerment” but a tangible support to enhance the academic pursuits of his constituents, urging the students to make judicious use of the funds and concentrate on their studies.
The House Member mentioned that soonest, numerous youth and women from Mkpat Enin Local Government Area will benefit from various empowerment and skill acquisition programmes that he has lined up in his resolve to give back to his constituents.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Comrade Ikanke Stephen, thanked the lawmaker for the gesture. While providing a background to the processes that led to the empowerment programme, he said “The students were thoroughly screened to ascertain their authenticity, and over one hundred and five students have been verified and readied to receive the grant,” he said.
Chief Inwang Inyang, a prominent figure, and former Director in Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, , lauded the lawmaker’s generosity, saying, “The House member’s generosity flows in his blood because his biological father was a very generous man, and the House Member has remained accessible and very beneficial to his constituents.” He urged the students to read harder and make the most of the opportunity.
Former caretaker chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Lady Ekaete Usip, applauded the House Member for his generous support to the students and sterling performance in office. “Mkpat Enin people are satisfied with your representation,” she added.
The President of National Association of Mkpat Enin Students, Comrade Usenobong John, described the gesture as a big relief to the students, especially the indigent ones. He seized the opportunity to call on Mkpat Enin students across tertiary institutions nationwide to always identify with the local community association to get timely information on welfare programs.
Supervisor for Education in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Hon. Saviour Udom, poured encomiums on the House Member for the gesture and urged the students to support the administration of Pastor Umo Eno and leadership of the House of Assembly member.
High point of the event was the issuance of prototype cheques and announcement of the immediate disbursement of the funds by the House Member. The House Member also thrilled the attendees when he announced plans for a mega empowerment program for youth and women, stating that 18 youth are already undergoing skill acquisition training in truck driving. He added that aims to train 100 youth in various skills relevant to the oil and gas industry before the end of the year.
