The Idoma community in Benue State has been thrown into deep mourning following a heartbreaking double tragedy that claimed the lives of a young man and his 10-year-old nephew, both members of a prominent political family from southern Nigeria.
According to reports, the deceased young man, identified as Victor Peter Moro, had only recently returned from Turkey, where he successfully completed his university education. His homecoming, meant to mark the beginning of a new chapter as he prepared to commence the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, ended in tragedy. Victor reportedly lost his life in a ghastly motor accident around the Mararaba axis, a few days after arriving in Nigeria.
In a cruel twist of fate, the grief of the family and community deepened barely 48 hours later when news broke of the death of Victor’s 10-year-old nephew, Master Abba Moro Jnr. The boy, fondly known for his cheerful nature and intelligence, was said to have been the light of the family, making the loss even more devastating.
The sudden deaths have left the entire Idoma nation in shock, with an outpouring of grief and condolence messages from political associates, traditional rulers, and sympathizers across Benue State and beyond. Many described the incident as one of the darkest moments in the community’s recent history.
Reacting to the sad development, the Member representing Okpokwu State Constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Agom Anthony, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic events. He described the late Victor as a man of integrity and compassion whose promising future was cut short by fate.
“Victor was not only a devoted son but also a close ally and friend,” Agom said in his condolence message. “I remember our encounter in Turkey when I visited for other engagements his kindness, integrity, and commitment to humanity and his people will always be remembered.”
The lawmaker further described the incident as “unimaginable and deeply painful,” praying for divine comfort for the bereaved family during this difficult period.
“As you navigate this profound grief, know that you are not alone,” he added. “My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May you find comfort in the cherished memories you hold and in the love that surrounds you.”
The remains of the late Victor Peter Moro have reportedly been conveyed to Ugbokolo, his ancestral home in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State, where he has been laid to rest amid tears and tributes.
The double tragedy serves as a grim reminder of life’s fragility and has united the Idoma community in mourning and solidarity, as friends and sympathizers continue to troop to the family residence to express their condolences and offer prayers for strength and peace.
