Ighalo Advises Osimhen: Take Saudi Millions Now, Return to Europe Later

Former Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has advised Napoli forward Victor Osimhen to consider a lucrative short-term move to the Saudi Pro League before making a return to elite European football.

In an interview with Echo Room, Ighalo, who famously played in the Chinese Super League before a shock loan move to Manchester United, suggested that Osimhen prioritize financial security at this stage of his career.

“My advice to Victor Osimhen is to go to Saudi Arabia for two years to make money. Then he can come back to Europe,” Ighalo said.

Reflecting on his own journey, the 34-year-old pointed out that he returned to top-level European football at age 30 and believes Osimhen, currently 26, has enough time to take a similar path.

“I went to China for three years, then returned to play for Manchester United. All odds were against me—I was 30. Victor is 26 now. In two years, he’ll be 28 and can still play in Europe for another five years if he wants,” he added.

Osimhen’s Uncertain Future

Osimhen’s future remains a topic of speculation, with Napoli recently turning down a reported €75 million offer from Turkish giants Galatasaray. The Nigerian striker, who has netted 37 goals in 41 appearances for the Serie A club, is one of the most sought-after forwards in world football.

Saudi League Gaining Ground as a Tactical Career Move

Ighalo’s advice echoes a broader trend among footballers using the Saudi Pro League as a high-paying career detour. Football icons like Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and N’Golo Kanté have already made the switch, lured by substantial financial packages and the promise of less intense competition.

Will Osimhen Follow the Money?

As speculation grows around his next move, the big question is whether Osimhen will heed Ighalo’s advice and cash in with a short-term Saudi stint—or continue to chase glory in Europe’s top leagues. Whatever he chooses, the decision will significantly shape the trajectory of his footballing future.
