Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has promised to fix Nigeria in just four years if given the chance to lead. He made this known on Tuesday during a ceremony in Gombe, where he also shared his plan with members of an opposition coalition. Obi believes he doesn’t need more than one term to turn the country around.
According to Dr. Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Obi has officially submitted his single-term proposal to a coalition of opposition leaders. The group includes top politicians like Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, and David Mark. The idea is now being reviewed as part of efforts to form a strong opposition front ahead of the 2027 elections.
Tanko explained that the one-term plan is not in the constitution, but Peter Obi is choosing to limit himself to four years as a show of commitment and integrity. He believes that with focus and the right leadership, four years is enough to solve major problems like poor electricity, unemployment, and the weak economy.
He also wants to make Nigeria an exporting country again. He says under his leadership, flights will no longer leave Nigerian airports empty, and products made in Nigeria will be in demand around the world.
While speaking in Gombe, Peter Obi received praise from the local community for his humanitarian work. He has helped build boreholes for clean water and supported education and small businesses in the North. His efforts are beginning to change public opinion, especially in places where he got less support during the last election.
Dr. Tanko said that Obi’s growing acceptance in northern Nigeria shows that people are starting to see him as a national leader, not just a regional figure. He called Obi a bridge-builder who cares about every part of the country.
The proposal and growing support from the North are signs that Obi is preparing early for 2027. His message is clear: he wants to lead Nigeria with honesty, serve for only one term, and leave behind real results.
