Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo, immediate past Council Chairman, strong politician and prominent youth mobilizer in River State has thrown his weight behind Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s re-election bid, asserting that the governor will serve a total of eight years.
Ihunwo made the declaration at a gathering of women from Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, where he hosted them at his private residence on Saturday, December 20, 2025.
The ambassador, a political ally of Governor Fubara, emphasized the strong alignment of Obio/Akpor residents with the governor, particularly after his defection to the All Progressive Congress (APC). Ihunwuo stated that the people of Obio/Akpor are committed to backing Fubara’s second-term bid.
In his words, “i further affirmed that the residents of the local government area are not just passive supporters; they are fully committed to backing the Governor in his efforts to secure re-election for a second term. Additionally, I highlighted the importance of their collective efforts in ensuring the success of the President in his bid for a second tenure, as this collaboration is crucial for the advancement of our local government and state”.
He further emphasized that “In my address to the women, I emphasized the positive alignment of the people of Obio/Akpor with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, particularly following his strategic defection to the All Progressive Congress (APC), a move that has strengthened our political landscape”.
In a show of support, Ihunwuo disbursed ₦12 million to aid the welfare of Obio/Akpor women and shared bags of rice and a cow as Christmas gifts. This move is seen as a boost to Fubara’s re-election campaign and a signal that his allies are mobilizing support.

The development marks a significant step in Fubara’s re-election bid, with Ihunwuo’s backing likely to galvanize support from Obio/Akpor and beyond. The governor’s team is expected to leverage this momentum to push for a strong showing in the upcoming elections.
