Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has addressed ongoing rumours about his alleged defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking through his media team, Fubara made it clear that he has not left the PDP and has not made any decision to join any other political party.
This comes after several of his supporters and loyalists recently defected from the PDP to the ADC, which is being supported by former governor Rotimi Amaechi.
There had been growing speculation that Fubara would also dump the PDP upon his expected return to office in September.
However, Fubara’s camp has now stated that while people have the freedom to make political choices, the governor remains committed to the PDP for now.
Sydney Gbara, the Publicity Secretary of the Fubara-led PDP faction, also confirmed that the governor has not given any directive about joining another party.
Gbara said if there will be any move, it will come directly from Governor Fubara, and until then, the PDP remains their political home.
He also noted that many people still stand with the governor and will follow his political direction whenever he decides to speak.
Governor Fubara was suspended in March 2025 due to internal political crisis in Rivers State but is expected to resume official duties by September.
