The Edo State Police Command has urged women, especially young ladies, to always share their location with someone they trust before going anywhere including for hookups.
This advice was issued by the command’s spokesperson on Sunday, June 22, 2025, in response to the murder of a 21-year-old lady, Osato Festus Edogiaweria.
In recent times, there has been a disturbing rise in cases of missing persons, particularly women, many of whom are later found dead with their bodies mutilated. These gruesome killings are often linked to ritual activities, making the need for safety precautions more urgent than ever.
The latest case involved Osato, who had been declared missing since April 2025 after visiting a man suspected to be her acquaintance. Police investigations led to the arrest of the suspect, Joshua Osaigbovo. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime, and the police later exhumed Osato’s body from a shallow grave where it had been buried.
According to the police, the suspect lured Osato under the pretense of meeting up, only to end her life. The incident has further highlighted the dangers of undisclosed meetups. The police spokesperson concluded with a strong message to the public: “At least tell someone your location even if you are going for a ‘hookup’.”
