Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former political adviser to President Bola Tinubu, has expressed that the president should have taken it upon himself to personally address the circulating rumors regarding the potential replacement of Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 elections.
Baba-Ahmed emphasized that if these rumors were unfounded, the president’s direct intervention would have clarified the situation.
Reports have emerged suggesting an alleged scheme to replace Shettima as Tinubu’s running mate, despite the elections being two years away. In response to the speculation, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga previously labeled the rumors as a “non-issue,” asserting that Tinubu would only select his running mate after officially accepting the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination.
A reply regarded by many as evasive and subtle admission of the rumours that all is not well between the President and his Vice as far as 2027 reelection is concerned.
