Recent protests in Nepal, led by Gen Z, successfully toppled the government due to widespread corruption and economic hardship. However, Nigerian activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) believes a similar revolution is unlikely in Nigeria.
Deep-Seated Divisions
VDM attributes this to Nigeria’s deep-seated tribalism and religious divisions, which he claims are exacerbated by social media influencers. These divisions hinder national unity and make it challenging for Nigerians to come together against a common cause.
Comparison to Nepal
In contrast, Nepal’s protests were driven by a unified voice against corruption, with protesters successfully forcing the government to lift a social media ban and resign. VDM notes that Nigeria’s diverse population and lack of unity make it difficult to replicate Nepal’s revolution.
Call to Action
Despite these challenges, VDM urges Nigerian youths to put aside their differences and promote love and unity. He believes that collective action can bring about change, but it requires a unified voice and a rejection of tribalism and religious bias.
Lessons from Nepal
The Nepal experience highlights the dangers of unchecked power and corruption. Nigerian leaders would do well to heed these warnings and prioritize the needs of their citizens. By doing so, they can prevent similar unrest and ensure stability in the country.
While Nigeria may not be on the same path as Nepal, the country’s leaders must be aware of the potential consequences of ignoring the needs of their citizens. By promoting unity, accountability, and good governance, Nigeria can avoid the devastating effects of revolution and build a more stable future for its people.¹ ²
