Why People are Running Away From the PDP- Nyesom Wike

Posted on June 2, 2025

Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike has given an insight into the situation in the People’s Democratic Party, PDP that is causing the mass defections of party faithfuls from the party.

Mr. Wike made this revelation during his media chat televised live on Arise TV this morning.

According to Wike, the law says that Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC cannot receive a certificate of nomination from any party aspirant or candidate except it is signed by both the Chairman and Secretary of the party that the candidate belongs to.

“Even if one person signs, the INEC will not receive the form, the two of them, both the party Chairman and Secretary must sign the forms before a candidate is cleared and no politician who wants to win elections would take that risk of remaining in a party that there is crisis”. He added.

Wike further said that the People’s Democratic Party, PDP lacks leadership and proper management blaming the defection of Governors and other elected officials from the party on the leadership of the party.

In his words “the defection is due to leadership, you won’t tell me that the leadership of the party did not have intelligence that the Governors of Delta State and Akwa Ibom State we having plans to defect, what did they do?”.

He added that “as opposition party you don’t grandstand or say they can go, rather you set up a team to visit the people planning to defect, talk to them, tell them look, you are making a mistake, look at this look at that, let’s come together. Instead of doing that the leadership of the party allowed them to go and look at what is happening now”.

Wike also said that he is an asset to the PDP whether they like it or not. And he is also said an asset to ensuring that President Ahmed Bola Tinubu wins his second term in office.

The former River State Governor, Nyesom Wike also seized the opportunity of the media chat to reply his former boss, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi for saying on his 60th birthday celebration that Nigerians are hungry.

Wike queried why Amaechi who has been in government since 1999 to 2023 talk about hunger in Nigeria whereas he has been on government for over 20years superintending over billions of naira and dollars.

“I don’t know why someone would choose his 60th birthday as a day to lie and insult Nigerians. because of hunger, hunger for power you suddenly discover that Nigerians are hungry just because you left power two years ago. But you have been in power since 1999 you didn’t see that Nigerians are hungry until today, you join Atiku and Elrufai for a failed coalition and suddenly discover that Nigerians are hungry, shame”.
