Former Ivory Coast international Yaya Toure has praised Senegal’s reaction to the controversial penalty decision in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final against Morocco.
Toure expressed his admiration for Senegal’s staff, players, and supporters, saying they were “rock-solid on every front, not just the sporting one”.
Toure criticized the refereeing decisions, claiming the disallowed Senegal goal was valid and would have been allowed if Morocco had scored. He also highlighted Morocco’s attempts to disrupt Senegal’s goalkeeper, including taking his towel during the match.
The AFCON final saw Senegal walk off the pitch in protest of a late penalty awarded to Morocco, before returning to win 1-0 in extra time. The controversy has sparked debate, with Morocco’s coach Walid Regragui calling the incident “shameful” for African football.
