In a renewed drive to improve inter-Local Government Area connectivity and deliver on his promise of continuity, Governor Umo Eno has commissioned the 10.4km reconstructed Hospital/Ukpom Abak – Idoro/Pepsi Junction Road traversing Uyo and Abak Local Government Areas.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Governor Eno described the road project as a fulfillment of his commitment to complete all ongoing projects initiated by the immediate past administration and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to bridging rural-urban gaps by connecting communities to the city centre through strategic infrastructure.

He emphasized his administration’s zero-tolerance for project delays, cautioning contractors against requesting variations after contracts are awarded. “We are committed to fully funding all awarded projects, and in return, we expect timely and quality delivery,” the Governor asserted.
The Governor expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Professor Eno Ibanga, for what he described as efficient and professional supervision of the project and also lauded the Managing Director of AMITEC Construction and Development Ltd., Engr. Aiman Saimua, for delivering the road to standard and specification as well as provision of portable borehole water to the host community.
In a symbolic gesture of inclusion, the Governor directed the Head of Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien and the Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Uko Udon, SAN, to commence immediate employment—effective August 1, 2025—of a visually impaired lawyer recently called to the Nigerian Bar. This, he said, is part of his administration’s commitment to equal opportunities and human capital development.

The Governor also announced a youth-focused initiative, revealing that in the coming weeks, his administration will flag off the construction of Youth-Friendly Centres in all Local Government Areas of the State and explained that the initiative, which is being planned in collaboration with the ALGON Chairman and LGA Chairpersons, will see each local council provide space for the construction of a Youth Town Square—a space designed to promote innovation, digital literacy, and peer mentorship which will serve as hubs for creativity, counselling, and meaningful engagement the youth.
He further used the occasion to drum support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, in their second-term ambitions, asserting that their continued leadership at the federal level was crucial to sustaining the support and collaboration Akwa Ibom has been receiving from the central government
Presenting the technical overview, Prof. Ibanga noted that the 10.4km road was reconstructed with high quality sub-base and base layers to provide structural support and durability, adding that appropriate drainage infrastructure are also provided to combat erosion and explained that the road had deteriorated due to being used as a major traffic diversion during the construction of the Ikot Oku Ikono flyover.

The Commissioner commended the Governor for funding about 80% of the project and affirmed that the road, initiated by the Udom Emmanuel administration, was rescued in record time under Governor Eno’s leadership.
Giving a welcome address, the Chairman of Uyo L.G.A., Hon. Uwemedimo Udo, in company of his Abak counterpart, Hon. (Mrs.) Ime Francis, praised the Governor for responding to the cries of the people, noting that the road, which had collapsed under pressure during the Ikot Oku Ikono diversion, is a vital route for residents and has now been restored to modern standard.

In a goodwill message, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly and Member representing Abak State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, declared that the road rehabilitation has won the hearts of Abak people. He recounted how the poor condition of the road previously hampered access to hospitals and exposed commuters to criminal attacks.
On his part, Hon. Clement Jimbo, Member representing Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency, described Governor Eno as a compassionate leader whose swift intervention has restored not just the road, but also the dignity and economy of the people.
