Residents of Ibadan North in Oyo State have written an open letter to the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru. In the letter, they expressed strong anger over what they call his interference in the upcoming bye-election in their area.
The people accused Mr. Basiru of suddenly showing interest in the election without following proper party rules. They also said he held a secret and unofficial meeting on July 8, 2025, which was not approved by the party.
According to the letter, the National Secretary is trying to force a particular candidate on the people of Ibadan North. The residents believe he is being influenced by the son of late businessman Arisekola Alao, who they say is trying to use power and connections to win the election through unfair means.
The letter also contained strong warnings. The people reminded Mr. Basiru that “Ibadan North is not Osun,” asking him not to bring political games from his home state into their area. They warned him not to be used to destroy the party’s unity and trust.
The residents called on President Bola Tinubu and the Acting Chairman of APC to look into the matter and make sure that the party holds a fair and open primary election. They want all candidates to be given a fair chance and for the people to choose who will represent them.
In their words, they say:
“No to imposition. No to backdoor deals. No to using national offices for personal gain.”
This letter shows that many party members in Ibadan North are not happy with top officials trying to control local politics. They want respect, fairness, and the right to choose their leaders.
