As the 2027 general elections approach, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is already laying the groundwork to secure a resounding victory in Lagos State for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. House of Representatives member, Hon. Kafilat Adetola Ogbara, representing Kosofe Federal Constituency, has disclosed that the party is mobilizing early to ensure that the 2023 electoral upset does not repeat itself.
In a candid conversation with journalists, Ogbara emphasized that the APC is determined to reverse the loss President Tinubu experienced in Lagos during the last presidential election. According to official results from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Labour Party candidate Peter Obi secured 582,130 votes in Lagos, narrowly defeating Tinubu who garnered 571,575 votes—an unexpected outcome in the political stronghold of the APC leader.
Reflecting on that result, Ogbara described the 2023 election as a sobering moment for the party. “The loss was unfortunate, especially considering the enormous influence and legacy of our leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, not only in Lagos but across Nigeria,” she said.
She revealed that the APC is prioritizing grassroots engagement as a core strategy for the 2027 elections. “Our preparation has already begun. We’re taking deliberate steps, especially in the selection of local government chairpersons and councilors, to ensure they truly represent and understand their communities,” she said.
Ogbara highlighted that the success of the APC in 2027 hinges on empowering credible and well-connected individuals at the grassroots. “A councilor who doesn’t know their community or polling units cannot mobilize effectively. We are focused on choosing leaders who are not only familiar with their local dynamics but are also trusted by the people they serve.”
Although Ogbara clarified that she was not officially speaking on behalf of the Lagos APC, her statements offer a glimpse into the party’s forward-looking campaign machinery and its determination to reclaim every inch of political ground in Lagos for President Tinubu.
The 2027 elections may still be years away, but the APC’s early mobilization signals a fierce and calculated effort to restore its dominance in Nigeria’s commercial and political capital.
